With a simple and fluid writing style, Diane Mackay wonderfully conveys the desire to care for oneself and one's loved ones with herbs with multiple properties, in the form of infusions, liquid extracts, oils or ointments.
This spring, Colloïdales Publishing will release 40 Medicinal Plants for the Family Medicine Cabinet, Diane Mackay's first book on 40 medicinal plants that are easy to grow, process, and use, including 12 well-known aromatic herbs such as basil, oregano, rosemary, and thyme. She presents them in six sections: history, botany, gardening, uses, culinary applications (where applicable), and precautions. The book is designed as a practical guide for growing, harvesting, and processing 40 simple remedies that address most common health problems. An essential resource for building robust and natural health, the key to a healthy, free, and fulfilling life.
Diane Mackay lives with her partner, Yves Gagnon, in Saint-Didace, where they established Les Jardins du Grand-Portage. It was there that she was introduced to traditional herbalism, exploring the vast healing potential of medicinal plants. She cultivates about a hundred species, half of which she transforms into dried herbs, liquid extracts, oils, and ointments. For thirty years, she has treated those around her with her homemade products, who have witnessed their remarkable effectiveness. She also offers training and gives lectures on the subject.

Solitary bees, also called wild bees, carpenter bees, or mason bees, are important pollinators. There are over 350 species of these bees in Quebec. They are the first to pollinate flowers in the spring and represent a vital link in our ecosystem. Provide them with a winter habitat! They will lay their eggs there, which will give rise to life when spring returns.
- Each insect hotel can accommodate solitary bees.
- Solitary bees are not aggressive towards humans because they have no honey to defend. More than half don't even have a stinger. They carry out their pollination work within a radius of 250 meters.
- Orient the front of the chalet to the south or southeast, with its back to the prevailing winds and sheltered from the elements, at least 30 cm from the ground.
- Pre-installed anchor on the back of the cottage for installation on a house, shed, fence, deck, etc. Avoid drilling into tree trunks.
- Plant a beautiful variety of flowers that attract solitary bees.
- This chalet can also accommodate ladybugs and lacewings, which are excellent predators of aphids.
- Avoid the use of pesticides and insecticides.
- Height 6 in (15.24 cm); width 6 in (15.24 cm); depth 6 in (15.24 cm).
- Cedar chalet made in the Eastern Townships by a craftswoman who has a great concern for the environment.
Site selection, development plan, choice of plant species, budget, work organization and citizen participation: this book provides the tools to develop collective food forests in our communities.
How can we easily and abundantly grow healthy fruits and vegetables for a local community? And how can we do so in an environmentally friendly and resilient way, while also strengthening cultural ties, promoting education in sustainable agriculture, and maintaining biodiversity? The answer lies in multi-layered agroforestry systems, better known in Quebec as "food forests." Self-regulating like a natural forest and requiring minimal maintenance, these systems are valuable allies in the ongoing agroecological revolution.
In this guide, Caroline Dufour-L'Arrivée leverages her expertise to equip and support communities wishing to establish food forests in their environment, whether urban, rural, municipal, school, or institutional. In addition to offering numerous tips on plant selection and agricultural techniques, this guide:
- explains the concept of "food forest" and its importance;
- shares the experience gained by thirteen model and pioneering initiatives in Quebec in the form of detailed and illustrated portraits;
- shows how this type of development allows communities to rebuild links and develop their resilience;
- identifies the fundamental elements that must be taken into account to successfully carry out a collective food forest project;
- offers a step-by-step working method to help structure the implementation processes of this type of project and monitor their progress.
Citizens are increasingly expressing their desire to develop a new, healthy, and sustainable agriculture that is less labor-intensive and creates multifunctional green spaces. This guide will certainly meet their need for support in their collective project.

The author presents his ecological vegetable gardening technique, the result of over 30 years of experimentation. It is a precise and easy-to-understand method for growing vegetables in companion planting. The planting diagrams are clear and easily reproducible in the garden.
This technique will be particularly suitable for those who cannot cultivate on mounds or wish to maintain a linear vegetable garden structure, while wanting to stop tilling, work with cover crops (surface composting), associate crops with each other, fertilize naturally... Furthermore, the author's overall "all ecological" approach will also interest those looking for a coherent cultivation technique for a permaculture approach to the vegetable garden.
Aromatic and medicinal plants play a vital role in this farming system. The author believes they are also essential for human health, enabling a healthy diet. Therefore, she dedicates a significant portion of her book to describing their uses for health and cooking, including numerous recipes. Each plant description is accompanied by a photograph to help identify the plant.

A fascinating culinary journey. This magnificent book, written by Caroline, Stéphanie, and Patricia Ho-Yi Wang, and featuring photographs by Virginie Gosselin, is brimming with information and recipes to help you better understand Asian vegetables. A true tribute to the land, good food, and roots.
While bok choy has carved out a prime spot on Western shelves, many other Asian vegetables remain relatively unknown. Yet, these are flavorful and nutritious vegetables that thrive in temperate, and even northern, climates!
Caroline, Stéphanie and Patricia Ho-Yi Wang, three sisters of Cantonese origin, have made it their mission to introduce and make people love these vegetables in a unique book, at the crossroads of gardening guide, cookbook and family story.
Organized around 15 Asian vegetables presented according to the seasons, the book offers organic growing and harvesting advice for both casual gardeners and aspiring market gardeners, as well as preservation techniques, nutritional information, and cooking methods. Around forty recipes, some developed by renowned chefs, are also included.
The Wang sisters also explore the world of Asian vegetables from a cultural perspective, tracing the place they have occupied in their own lives and in that of their family, part of which left China to emigrate to Madagascar before settling in Quebec.
