Broccoli
Broccoli ( Brassica oleracea var. italica ) is a variety of cabbage originating in southern Italy. It was selected by the Romans from the wild cabbage that once grew on the Italian peninsula. They greatly appreciated it, and it is used extensively in Italian cuisine. The word "broccoli" is derived from the Latin word bracchium , meaning "branch."
Although broccoli is a low-energy food, it contains many minerals and molecules that help prevent cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Originally from Europe, Goliath broccoli stands out for its impressive size and remarkable resilience. This heirloom variety has withstood the test of time, establishing itself in organic vegetable gardens where its density makes it a valuable and nutritious vegetable.
In the garden, Goliath broccoli boasts an upright habit with large green leaves, offering an abundant harvest of fleshy heads. Its hardiness and ability to thrive even in slightly cooler conditions make it a reliable companion for gardeners concerned with biodiversity.
Grown for its firm and tasty flesh, it fits perfectly into a food garden that prioritizes quality and sustainability, attracting attention with its verdant charisma.
De Cicco broccoli is an heirloom variety prized for its earliness and ability to produce over a long period. Unlike single-headed broccoli varieties, it initially forms a small central head, then quickly develops numerous lateral shoots, providing repeated and extended harvests.
Originally from Italy, this broccoli is distinguished by its finer florets and mild, slightly sweet flavor. Its texture is tender when harvested young, making it a popular vegetable in home cooking. Its rapid growth allows for early harvests, often as early as the beginning of summer for spring sowings.
In the garden, De Cicco adapts well to cool to temperate weather conditions. It thrives in rich, well-drained soil and prefers consistent moisture. Frequent harvesting rewards it with a continuous production of secondary shoots, extending the broccoli's presence in the vegetable garden.
By crossing 'Green Goliath' broccoli with two varieties of kale, breeder Frank Morton created a remarkable variety, as astonishing for its color as for its texture and flavor. Its finely toothed, red leaves are truly delicious: young, they add a colorful, bittersweet touch to salads; older, steamed, they reveal a richness that rivals the best traditional kale.
The head, too, has its own character: tender, juicy purple stems topped with small green florets that have a mild, sweet taste, without the sometimes sharp intensity of classic raw broccoli. It's a variety where every part, from the leaves to the stems, is savored with renewed pleasure at each stage of development.
Very hardy, it also shows excellent tolerance to insects , making it a safe and delightful choice for gardeners who want to grow a broccoli that is original, resilient and tasty.
In the garden, it develops a robust and compact habit, ideal for growing in a variety of spaces. Its early maturity makes it an excellent choice for those who want to enjoy tender, colorful broccoli. Its purple hue also adds a touch of beauty to companion planting, enhancing biodiversity and the overall harmony of the vegetable garden.
