Jardins de l'écoumène
Large beefsteak tomato from Rodelle - Organic
(0)
$4.49
Unit price / perOriginating from Aveyron in southern France, the Grosse de Rodelle is an old variety that doesn't go unnoticed. It produces very fleshy, round to slightly flattened fruits with light ribbing all over, reminiscent of the rustic tomatoes found in family vegetable gardens.
This indeterminate plant grows vigorously, bearing large fruits weighing 300 to 500 grams with dense, juicy flesh reminiscent of the famous "beefsteak" texture. It boasts regular foliage and good natural disease resistance. Its average earliness allows for a generous mid-season harvest, with production extending until the first chills of autumn.
Well suited to both cool and warm climates, the Grosse de Rodelle is a reliable companion for gardeners seeking robustness, generosity... and taste.

- Growing climate: Warm season
- Sowing difficulty level: Easy
- Care required: Regular
- Growth: Summer growth
Annotation: Typical full-heat cultivation, to be planted outdoors only after all risk of frost, as with other tomatoes in Quebec.
Here's a tomato just the way we like them, true to the tradition of peasant vegetable gardens. La Grosse de Rodelle is appealing for its bold, pronounced flavor, with the aroma of an old-fashioned tomato. Its firm flesh, with little gelatin and few seeds, holds up well to cooking, making it a dream variety for stuffed tomatoes – its specialty!
It's also delicious raw, in thick salads or sliced into juicy sandwiches. It can be slow-cooked to make flavorful coulis and sauces, or roasted in the oven to concentrate its aroma. In local traditions, this tomato evokes harvests shared with family, summer meals enjoyed in the shade of fig trees, and recipes passed down with simplicity and pride.
