Hailstone Radish - Organic
(0)
$4.49
Unit price / perOriginating from the spring radish family, the Hailstone radish is distinguished by its round, bright white root, which seems to blend in with the light pebbles of healthy soil. In a vegetable garden, it offers a simple yet effective presence: a small rosette of leaves close to the ground, then very quickly, roots ready to be eaten.
In the cycle of the seasons, this variety is a boon to gardeners eager to taste the first harvests. Planted in suitable soil, it grows remarkably consistently, without requiring much, provided it receives regular watering and well-drained soil. Its rapid growth allows it to fill the gaps between rows in a suitable vegetable garden, until other plants take over.
With its rapid growth, Hailstone fits perfectly into an approach to sustainable gardening: it is sown, watched grow almost daily, and harvested young, leaving the soil available for a new crop. A small, reliable plant that simply contributes to the harmonious life of a garden.

- Growing climate: Cool season
- Sowing difficulty level: Easy
- Care required: Occasional
- Growth: Rapid growth
Note: A spring radish variety that appreciates cool temperatures and consistently slightly moist soil to prevent the roots from becoming fibrous or pungent.
Hailstone radishes are primarily eaten raw, like other spring radishes. Their crisp, white roots can be sliced into rounds or sticks to enhance salads, open-faced sandwiches, crudité platters, or simply eaten raw with a sprinkle of salt. Their light color makes them interesting when mixed with red or bicolored radishes to create contrasting dishes. The young leaves, when tender, can be added in small quantities to soups or sautéed like a leafy green. The roots will keep for a few days in a cool place, ideally with a little humidity and separated from their leaves, which tend to wilt more quickly. In some cuisines, small white radishes are also used in pickled or lightly vinegared preparations.
