Flowering oats - Organic

"An elegant grass with delicate flowers, a perfect companion to meadows and natural gardens."

$4.49

Native to the temperate regions of Europe and Asia, flowering oat — also known as avena — is a slender, soft and supple grass, whose light inflorescences sway gracefully in the garden.

It can reach up to 1.50 m in height, forming an airy and mobile silhouette.
Its thin, hollow stem bears drooping spikelets at flowering time, offering a discreet but refined aesthetic in flowerbeds or edible meadows.

Valued in living spaces as a cover crop, windbreak or regenerative companion, oats enrich soils with their deep root system and rapid growth.

It fits naturally into a culture that respects the rhythm of the seasons, flexibly accompanying food crops and promoting biodiversity by attracting beneficial insects.

  • Growing climate: Temperate climate
  • Sowing difficulty level: Easy
  • Care required: Occasional

Note: Tolerates cool soils well and requires good drainage.

Oats are a generous plant, all parts of which have valuable uses: stems, flowers, grains, bran… The aerial parts, still green and just before flowering, are mainly harvested for their medicinal properties, in fresh or dried form.

Traditionally used in herbalism to soothe digestive disorders, support appetite, calm skin itching or revitalize the nervous system, it is also recognized for its supply of vegetable proteins, minerals (iron, calcium) and vitamins.

The grain, rich and nourishing, can be used to make herbal teas, poultices, or soothing baths. Easy to digest and well-tolerated, oats are a gentle everyday ally, except for those with gluten intolerance or pregnant women (professional advice is recommended).
