- Growing climate: Temperate to warm climate
- Sowing difficulty level: Easy
- Care required: Regular
Note: sensitive to frost and prefers a warm, sheltered location.
Each variety in the mix has its own culinary personality:
- The Genovese, a classic pesto and caprese salad*;
- Thai, with its spicy notes, is sublime in curries and Asian dishes;
- Opal Purple, with its sweet and decorative flavor, colors the plates;
- The Sacred (tulsi), used both in Ayurvedic herbal tea* and in fragrant cooking.
The leaves are harvested regularly to encourage growth and can be eaten fresh, dried, or frozen. This blend embodies a vibrant approach to cooking and invites you to play with textures, aromas, and traditions from around the world.
*What is a Caprese salad?
Caprese salad (or insalata caprese) is an Italian specialty originating from the island of Capri.
It's a simple, fresh salad and very emblematic of Italian cuisine.
It traditionally consists of:
- Fresh tomatoes
- Mozzarella (often mozzarella di bufala)
- Fresh basil
- Extra virgin olive oil
Sometimes: salt, pepper, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar (optional and not traditional)
It highlights the colours of the Italian flag: red, white, green.
*An Ayurvedic herbal tea is an infusion inspired by Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India, which aims to harmonize the body, mind and vital energies called doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).
