Black Centaury - Organic
(0)
$4.49
Unit price / perNative to the temperate regions of Europe , this hardy and wild perennial is emblematic of open meadows, embankments and forest edges . It is distinguished by its deep purple, almost black flowers , borne on robust stems of 30 to 75 cm , and its finely cut foliage .
Its bushy habit , its ability to adapt to poor soils, and its ease of self-seeding make it a reliable and self-sufficient companion in ecological gardens , naturalistic borders, or wildflower meadows. Its extended summer flowering , from June to September, attracts a wide variety of pollinators , including bees, bumblebees, and butterflies .

- Growing climate: Temperate climate
- Sowing difficulty level: Easy
- Care required: Occasional
Note: Tolerates poor and dry soils well once established.
The edible petals of the black cornflower are sometimes used to decorate salads, desserts, or infusions, adding a floral and colorful touch to the dish. Their flavor is subtle, and it is primarily their aesthetic value that is sought after.
In the past, its roots and seeds were recognized for their medicinal properties in certain rural herbal medicine traditions, but their use is no longer common today and must be approached with caution.
An excellent honey plant, it was also highly valued by beekeepers, particularly for its ability to feed bees at the end of the season.
