Golden Bantam Corn - Organic

"An ancient sweet corn, a faithful companion to family vegetable gardens."

$4.49

Number of seeds

Golden Bantam is an old, yellow sweet corn variety, long cultivated in North American home gardens. More of a "sweet corn" type than a field corn, it offers golden ears that add a beautiful presence to the vegetable garden, standing upright above bright green foliage.

In the garden, its plants reach a moderate height for a corn variety, making it well-suited to small-scale vegetable gardens. Its full ears of yellow kernels are harvested for milk and eaten immediately after picking. In a vibrant and productive garden, it thrives in strips or small squares, contributing to the garden's vertical structure and naturally fitting into the seasonal cycle, from sowing to the decline of the stalks in late summer.

  • Growing climate: Warm season
  • Sowing difficulty level: Medium
  • Care required: Regular
  • Growth: Summer growth

Annotation: Warm season plant that requires well-warmed soil and regular watering for good pollination and ear filling.

Golden Bantam is a sweet corn intended to be eaten fresh at the milky stage, shortly after harvest. The ears are best enjoyed boiled or steamed, often served whole. The kernels can also be cut from the cob and added to salads, stir-fried with vegetables, or incorporated into stews. As with other sweet corn varieties, long-term storage in its fresh form is limited; however, the kernels can be frozen after a light blanching to extend their shelf life in cooking.
