Tosca Onion - Organic
(0)
$4.49
Unit price / perThe 'Tosca' onion is a long-day yellow onion variety, recognizable by its elongated, torpedo-shaped bulbs covered with a thin, dry, glossy golden-brown skin. Its slender shape, unusual for yellow onions, makes it easy to slice into even pieces with very little waste, a valuable asset both in the garden and in the kitchen.
In the garden, Tosca stands out for its hardiness and good adaptation to cold climates. It is when the days shorten that the plant concentrates its energy on bulb formation, making it a particularly reliable variety for northern regions.
Sown early and with good support, it offers a harvest from late summer to autumn.

Annotation:
Sowing indoors early in the season and transplanting into the garden promotes good bulb formation. Steady growth, without water stress, results in well-shaped onions with excellent storage qualities.
The 'Tosca' onion is primarily a cooking onion. Its pungent but pleasant flavor mellows with heat without disintegrating, making it ideal for sautéed potatoes, fried dishes, stews, sauces and long cooking times.
Its flesh retains a firm texture and a pronounced flavor, even after thorough cooking. Thanks to its excellent storage capacity, Tosca belongs to the tradition of long-lasting onions, essential in hearty kitchens, where vegetables are sought that can withstand winter without losing their quality.
