Turkish Poppy - Organic
(0)
$4.49
Unit price / perOriginating from regions with sunny summers, the Turkish poppy readily finds its place in cheerful gardens where original shapes are appreciated. Its large, round capsules, topped with a small decorative "hat," prolong the plant's presence long after flowering and become veritable living sculptures at the heart of the vibrant garden.
In welcoming soil, it raises its flowering stem above the finely cut foliage, producing large, ephemeral flowers before transforming into striking dry fruits. It naturally finds its place in a space that is both nourishing and ornamental, where the plant's complete cycle—flowering, seed production, and dispersal—is allowed to unfold. It is a perfect companion for those who wish to observe life through the seasons and allow the garden to harmonize with the wind, insects, and time.

- Growing climate: Warm season
- Sowing difficulty level: Medium
- Care required: Occasional
- Growth: Summer growth
Note: Plant of temperate climate that appreciates sunny summers; tolerates drought relatively well once established but is susceptible to excess water in the young stage.
The ripe, well-dried seeds of Papaver somniferum, from edible varieties, are traditionally used as a condiment in many cuisines: sprinkled on breads and pastries, or incorporated into sweet or savory fillings. They should be stored in a dry place, away from light. In some traditions, the large dried seed pods are also used as decorative elements, in dried bouquets or handcrafted arrangements. Other uses, particularly medicinal ones, are associated with the species Papaver somniferum and should be approached with caution due to the alkaloids present in certain parts of the plant.
