Cornflower - Organic
(0)
$4.49
Unit price / perNative to Europe and Eurasia , cornflower (Knaurium spp.) is an iconic annual plant of wildflower meadows and cereal fields . It is easily recognizable by its deep, almost electric blue hue and its star-shaped flowers borne on slender stems . Long celebrated in rural landscapes, it is now making a strong comeback in ecological gardens where it expresses all its wild simplicity and understated beauty .
It blooms from June to August , attracts a variety of pollinators (bees, butterflies, hoverflies), and integrates readily into vegetable gardens , kitchen gardens , or field edges . Undemanding, it thrives in sun or partial shade, in poor, well-drained soils , and tolerates drought very well . Disease-resistant and unaffected by deer, it requires little maintenance and enriches biodiversity without being intrusive.

- Growing climate: Temperate climate
- Sowing difficulty level: Easy
- Care required: Occasional
Annotation: Average drought tolerance, prefers well-drained soil.
The edible flowers of the cornflower add a visual and floral touch to salads, desserts, or cold dishes. Dried, they can also be used to produce a natural blue food coloring, often used for decoration or coloring.
In traditional herbalism, an infusion of its flowers was used to relieve constipation, aid digestion, and treat mouth irritations as a gargle. It is one of the ancestral medicinal plants passed down through European farming practices.
Light, rustic, discreetly medicinal and undeniably beautiful, it accompanies the garden like a poetic and edible gesture at the same time.
