Jardins de l'écoumène
Traveler Standard Tomato - Organic
(0)
$4.49
Unit price / perKnown in the Germanic world as Reisetomate , the "Voyageuse" tomato belongs to those old varieties stemming from the great diversity of Solanum lycopersicum , first domesticated in South America and then widely distributed in Europe. Its striking fruit, formed of numerous small lobes fused together, immediately intrigues in the privacy of the garden: it looks like a small bouquet of miniature tomatoes, gathered into a single compact cluster.
In a thriving, supportive vegetable garden, it behaves like an indeterminate field tomato: it climbs steadily, develops ample foliage, and bears its distinctive, bright red fruit throughout the summer. Each lobe detaches almost without a knife, which once made it a practical companion for travel, quick meals, and picnics, embodying an age-old tradition and a deep appreciation for the changing seasons.
A benevolent presence in a diverse and nourishing environment, the Traveling Tomato offers both culinary and educational value: it attracts attention, sparks questions, and encourages observation and understanding of the richness of cultivated biodiversity. Through respectful cultivation practices, it reminds us how playful, inquisitive, and full of surprises our relationship with the living world can be.

- Growing climate: Warm season
- Sowing difficulty level: Medium
- Care required: Regular
- Growth: Summer growth
Annotation: Heat plant, very sensitive to frost; requires well-warmed soil and a sufficiently long season to properly ripen its fruits.
The Voyageuse tomato is distinguished by its fruit composed of numerous small lobes that detach easily. This characteristic makes it an ideal companion for picnics, garden snacks, and shared outdoor meals: everyone can take a slice without a knife.
In cooking, it is mostly eaten fresh: in rustic salads, as an accompaniment to grilled vegetables, or simply eaten raw with a little salt. Its rather tangy flavor makes it an interesting addition to dishes where the goal is to balance fat or sweetness (sandwiches, open-faced sandwiches, crudité platters).
The wedges can also be used on pizzas, in quick sauces, or roasted in the oven with aromatic herbs. The fruit, cut into pieces, lends itself to drying or gentle dehydration for later use, although this is not the primary use of this variety, which is mainly chosen for its originality and versatility.
