Double Standard corn is a bicolored sweet corn variety, with ears filled with yellow and white kernels, prized for its early maturity and good yield. In a thriving garden, its tall, upright stalks form a small, edible hedge that gently accompanies the summer cycle.

In the vegetable garden, this corn offers tender, sweet ears, ideal for gardeners seeking a reliable harvest in cooler climates or shorter growing seasons. Sown in patches in welcoming, well-warmed soil, it helps create a harmonious, nourishing space where one can reconnect with the age-old practice of corn cultivation while respecting the principles of ecological gardening.

  • Growing climate: Warm season
  • Sowing difficulty level: Easy
  • Care required: Regular
  • Growth: Summer growth

Note: Needs well-warmed soil before sowing and a location sheltered from strong winds to limit stem breakage.

Double Standard corn is a sweet corn primarily intended for eating fresh on the cob. It is harvested at the milky stage, when the yellow and white kernels are plump and still very tender. It is well-suited to boiling, steaming, barbecuing, or baking, and is best served simply with a little butter and salt.

The kernels can also be cut from the cob and added to salads, stir-fries, soups, chowders, and stews. To extend the harvest, the kernels can be blanched and then frozen for later use. This bicolored corn is in keeping with the traditional uses of sweet corn in North America, where it holds a central place in summer family gardens.
